So i got a complete 97 Blazer 4x4 donner truck and was wanting to re and re the engine and tranny into a 94 sonoma 2WD. I was wondering what if any complications will i encounter using a 4x4 harness and comp in a 2WD? actually ANY help, info, or links about this swap would be great!! Thanks!!!

If you swap a 2wd transmission on it, you can get rid of the 4wd tranny and transfer case. But you cannot use just the 4wd tranny without a transfer case.

How about this, tell me what your truck is now...specifics.
What do you want to swap into it and why?

Then we can help you better.

Do you want to R&R both the engine and transmission from the 4WD donor truck into a 2WD truck???

That would be a great place to start. So i have a 94 Sonoma with a 4 banger in it, and i got a complete 97 4x4 blazer. I would like to get rid of the 2.2L and drop the 4.3 into my 2WD. The blazer cost me a dollar...... i have crunched the idea of a V8, but being that i got a 4.3 for dam near free im gonna stay with V6. I was going to strip my engine bay and cab to bare metal and re and re from one truck to the next. So basically what im dieing to know is, what can, and can not be used from one truck to the next? and am i going to encounter any problems using a 4x4 harness and ecu in a 2WD application?

Yes, if you're lucky, you may be able to use your drive shaft in the truck now if you find a 2wd transmission. You cannot use the 4wd transmission without changing the tailhousting, honestly, you could said the transmission and transfer case together and probaby have spare cash after buying a 2wd transmission.

The 4wd oil pan will fit in a 2wd frame, so no worries there. Main thing is to weed out the 4wd wires and get rid of them, may even be able to have your tuned to be 2wd or trade it for a 2wd ECM.

Honestly, my knowledge is limited on the 4.3's, but i believe there are a few years the transmission will fit. Probably 96-???

And the engine mounts are the same on 4x4 or 2wd. You will just have to swap them over as they are different than a 2.2L mount.

I'm pretty sure the harness are the same, just 4wd have more pins on a connector used.

You might be able to get away with the 4wd computer. Look at wiring diagrams to see the difference between them.

Transfer case shift control module, located in the dash controls most of the 4x4 stuff, not the ecm. I think the ECM only get signals from the 4x4 so it knows when it's activated and what not.

So you may be able to use the 4x4 computer.

great info, thanks!! im getting the project started on monday so im trying to find out as much as possible about this swap. sounds like the engine should drop right in with the stock mounts, and it might be smarter to source out a 2WD transmission and sell off the 4x4 transmission and transfer case. Ill have to do more research on the harness and computer. Sure hope i can use them!!
Now what about the cross member? am i gonna need a different one?
