I wouldnt trust any non reconized header company's. Ebay is famous for off brand things that are cheap (Believe me i now my ebay I USE IT ALL THE TIME). They might not fit and then it is a disaster. Pacesetter makes cheaper headers for around $180 which i have used and fit great. Some also come with y pipes and down pipes.

ya but its not like you cant send them back. The pacesetter headers are real good but their not polished stainless which is what i realy like about these headers.

I would like to give these a try just to see nothing ventured nothing gained but if like you said they dont fit you going to be time alittle money.

Its more time and energy wasted trying to save a few bucks than its actually worth. You run the risk of the supposed stainless being too thin and rusting through, or the flanges being too thin and warping causing leaks etc. If you want the polished look buy a set of pacesetters or a set of edelbrocks off someone and have them ceramic coated. Have the shine of polished and cooler underhood temps as well

Mafia, you be our Guinea pig, lol!

I will try. reiner88 the risk you speek of cant be to high their the same 16 gauge tubing as the pacesetter and the same size flanges.

I dont remember where i seen it i think it was on jesse james garage but stainless is stronger thin mild steel which most headers are made from.

Im not trying to sell the product 2 you people i just thought i would show what i found.

They look like JBA ripoffs which in all honesty produce nothing really noticeable in terms of a power increase.

#9 ·
^^ so which headers actually do? They're all like 1-1/2" primary Shorty headers, I don't see any of them making a significant power increase.

#10 ·
If I had to do it all over I wouldn't even bother with shorty headers. Just get some full length long tube headers and slap those on instead...

i was checking out the pacesetter headers and i can only find them for either a 2.2 or 4.3 4x4. do they have them for 4.3 2wd?

That's what I'm saying man, I'm betting I could spend a couple of hours with my cutter and flapper wheels working a Lil magic on the stock manifolds and get equal performance.. Long tubes, different story but they don't make em for us 4wd guys.

I will say This though, the aftermarket shorties having the large collector is a nice plus, bolting up a stock y pipe prolly doesn't do much but a custom 2.5" might help the headers.

those are for 96-up. mines a 95 i forgot to say. i think i could just take the stock ones off and open up the ports more with my dremel and give them a fresh coat of paint

#15 ·
^^ prolly what I'm going to do as well bro! I'm gonna hog those logs out, lol!

#16 ·
lol yea theyre some ugly things but with some sanding and paint they should look a lot better. it makes me nervous though taking them off cause mines a 95, and by the looks of it theyve never been taken off. i do NOT want a bolt cracking inside there.
that happened to me on my dirt bike, i was taking off the valve cover to check the valves and all went well until i put the cover back on and bolt snapped inside the motor as i was finger tightening it in. what a s.o.b that was to get out.
ill prolly soak those bolts in PB for a couple hours then maybe little heat on them will do the trick. and any that look too old ill see if i can replace them with some at the hardware store.

Stock manifolds flow pretty well making the shorty offerings pretty useless. You'd be better off getting a custom y pipe made in 2" or 2.25" for an actual gain in power.

Definitely get rid of the stock y-pipe, that is where 80% of your restriction is. They neck the pipe down BAD right where the o2 sensors sit, I'm assuming to get a better read off the sensors.

Here's the edelbrock y-pipe compared to a stock 98 y-pipe

Here's the openings, the edelbrock is 2.25"

Awesome pics. I dont know why Edelbrock crushed that section to clear the Tranny, it usually will pass under without the crush. Nice looking pipe though. U can see how the stock one tapers down immediately after the opening and it also crushes by the bank 1 o2 sensor. Terrible design in my view. This is one main difference in the W and X code engines. The bigger Y pipe on the W code is the reason for 10hp. I dont not believe the cam profiles are different as some have vaguely suggested.

Wow!! That Edelbrock looks great! My ZR2 is a W code but the pipe still looks tiny!

Post up them long tube headers. I have never seen long tubes that fit on a 2wd 4.3. I do like the shorty they have better sound thin long tubes and they do add litlle power its all about the full exhaust system not just the headers.

Im going no y or x no cat with a set of flowmaster super 10 mufflers.

10's are a single chamber Flow, omg they're gonna be loud but you really should do an x pipe, Flowmaster recommends a balance tube of some sort. You could always run your duals down the pass. side like stock and use a narrow x in front, it would sound great man! Damn those single chambers are gonna be loud, lol!

I was looking under it today. It looks like it have the stock y pipe which looks like 1 inch maybe 1.25 into cat 2.50 out into glass pack and does another y in the back for the dual look on each side.

The exhaust sound ok at idle but no sound when rev. If i could find a x pipe thats small that i can put right under the trans mount and still come out at the cab corner or infront of the back wheels (nope gas tank) so cab corners is the only way.

I've got a pair of Spintech Pro street mufflers and a 3" X in my building, I used to run them on my 95 Z28 that I built true duals for. Spintech has an EVIL shreak up high, loved the sound, I built my exhaust over for a 2nd time and used Dynomax bullets both sounds are Badass!!
