i put a k&n drop in into my tbi v6, it gains a little power, and 2mpg more, and today i was looking at how small the opening is for the air. It is behind the headlight and is extremely small. I was told i could cut around it, but i just took the big plastic piece off the rubber hose and now it sucks in a lot more air and it feels a little more powerful, i wanted to know if this was safe

i guess you were thinking of the snorkel thing on the front of the box maybe. but Jhartt before you put you airbox on cut the box so it makes a heat sheild effect and only gets air from behind the headlight. there is a mount for the airbox at the front of the box on the core support. take that off and you'll get more flow.

Jhart's motor is a tbi. We have a round filter on top of the motor. Our filter is not down by the headlight. He is just taking the front piece of the snorkel off that goes down to the headlight.

Jhart I thought about doing this. I didn't know how much warm air it would suck though. It is perfectly safe, though. If you think you notice a difference I just might have to try it.

It was really easy to install. It just plugged into my stock chip and then into the ecm. Right after i installed it i didn't think it did alot, but after driving it a while and flooring it a couple of times I noticed it was alot more responsive and had more in the top end, thats where my motor sucks. I do like it, but i don' t know if i would pay $150 or what ever they are, though. I payed $30 on ebay. THere is a hypertech chip on ebay right now you might check it out, it says its for 94 TBI, but it might fit 95 as well. Hope this helps.

another thing you can do is go to any parts store and buy the edelbrock 10" chrome air cleaner and use the 10" factory drop in 4.3l TBI filter instead of the pos filter it comes with. Thats what i got on my truck and it sounds mean.
