Not true, my 2.8 had 273,000 miles on it before I swapped to a 3.4, and it would have lasted probably anonther 200,000.

 

My 2.8 has been through hell and back, and it just wont die. And i did have a little street race with a 2.5. we went on green and he beat me to the next light. nuff said.

 

2.8 has only like 20hp more than the 2.5, I'll take the 4 cylinder over it any day! It's got the weight advantage and is much more efficient.

I also own both engines.

 

ya well i had a 2.8l in my 4x4 s15 blew a head on it put a rebuild motor in it and the thing was way more power then the old motor so im thinking the 2.8l new would take the 2.5 but then i havnt drove a 2.5

 

there was a guy on here that claimed to have 1.3 million miles on a iron duke

 

2.5 < 2.8 < 4.3

If taken care of, they all are very reliable though.

No way would my 2.5 2wd be taken by a stock 2.8 4x4. Only thing holding me back is my huge tires and automatic transmission.

 

2.5 1st gens came with 4.11 gears.
A 2.5 auto vs stick 2.8 would probably favour the 2.5

 

i donno ive got the standard 2.8l with 4.11 gears and possy and ive had so many people looking at me for squeeling the tires its not even funny

My 4 banger will smoke the tires. I have to brake it, but they will roll smoke.

Our trucks are light so it doesn't take much to get the rear wheels spinning freely.

 

sorry ya i mean posi and freek you are right about them being light like me and my dad lifted the box off my truck and put a new one on without a hoist or anything.

but i donno mabby im thinking my truck would smoke a 2.5l is becuase i havnt drove one my 2.8l only has like 2000 km's since being rebuilt an electric fan and almost no restriction on the exhaust
