I need help from some of the 2.2l guys. What will be the best buy to make my 99 s-10 run as good as it looks. What works the best. Please give all the mods and what each one has done for you. Also if anyone has any good links please fill me in. I know the obvious ones like sts.

some poeple have said that if you get all the bolts on that you would be dissappointed with the change in power. sure you would have more but not what you would be expecting. personally i think that if anything is to be done i would do internals then do the bolt ons.

Agreed, internals will allow you to run more than 200 hp without damaging a piston/ring or snapping a connection rod. After internals you can turbocharge your 2.2 and from there, the skies the limit..... or your wallett which ever one comes first.

Yeah, I think the best mod would probably be doing an LS1... Ive found one for 2800 and it comes with everything needed to do the swap.... Now if you go count up all my mods... there is probably 2800 in mods.... Dont tell me cuz I dont wanna know how much Ive spent on mods.

Its alot more fun to drive... and it kicks a little butt.... but I think a swap is probably the best way to go.

Yes I do know about the LS1 conversion and I have considered it completely. I plan on doing something similar in a couple of years but I would like to make the 2.2l last me through college. As for now I would like to put those 4.3 bitches to shame my 2.2l. I have only two performance mods and the Venom 400 that I have installed allowed me to keep up with them up to 3rd gear. After that I lack the top end power to put me in front. I do not want to do internals because the 2.2l block isn't very efficient anyways. And besides, 4 cylinder internals are so damn expensive. I wouldn't mind getting exhaust but I hate the rice rockets running around sounding like weedeaters on steroids. I would like to have something that is free flowing but not loud. If at all possible. And also I should do a tune-up on my truck soon, so does any of the aftermarket actually do anything or should I stick with the oe stuff. Im asking this to whome might actually have put these on and what they thought of them.

As soon as the weather is nice I will clean my truck up and get some pictures of it. I just got some body work done and it turned out better than expected. Thanks to all the help.

Underdrive pulley from www.aspracing.com, E-fan, and the centerforce clutch will get you going pretty good.

Underdrive pulley is probably the cheapest mod on a 2.2L
I think the K&N or Volant would help you out alot too...

The K&N intake is going to make it sound like a ricer, until you do a cat-back or other exhaust.
Mine doesnt sound like a ricer at all, its not too loud, but Im going to also put in some noise barriers in the cab because it gets old listening to it all the time ( I think thats mostly age related though...lol)

If you need a part number you can go take a peek at my website... it also has links to the more popular places to get the stuff.. and you can do some price comparisom.

centerforce clutch

I am new so bear with me...
what is a centerforce clutch, what does it do for you, and about how much does it cost?
Also, does adding an e-fan, intake, exhaust and this clutch void my warranty with chevy?

a center force clutch has weights in the center so it engages better and has little or no slip under power(like our 2.2's have that)

as for the rest, they probably would void your warranty.

warranty

would the e fan or an underdrive crank pulley void the warranty?

centerforce is cheap 85 for the clutch and 85 for the pressure plate

The local dealership installed it for me

total price on parts and labor was 500 bucks or so

yeah you know because you really need a dual friction clutch to grasp ahold of all that power...

don't waste your money on the following:

power pullies
throttle body spacer
coils
plug wires
jet chip --> dynoed 2 hp improvement for one guy

only ones worth anything:

Intake
Pacesetter Header
Different exhaust
efan

you may gain 15 hp from that list total so in reality if you want a fast vehicle do not attempt this motor. the potential is not there, it would be lucky to beat a mildy modified honda DX 1.6L non-vtec automatic.

what is a pacesetter header?
and just to confirm, don't get an underdrive pulley?

I saw good throttle response and better over all gains.

Different peopl will tell you different things. Your gains will be different depending on what you add and when you add it.

I didnt notice anything but better MPG with my e-fan... that doesnt mean that i didnt gain anything, just means the hp gain was at a different spot than where other people did there mods.

The throttle body spacer is the only exception to this.... anyone who has one will tell you it isnt worth it.

As for the clutch, it grabs way better than the stock, and when in gear driving down the highway and just mashing the throttle you can tell its there, it pickes up speed better. And you have the same pedal feel but it grabs sooner in stop and go, or just trying to burn the tires.

the biggest gains for the least money? Is that what u want?
#1 gears!!! our trucks top out @ 95 with a 5speed in 5th gear @95mph and 4:11 gears were not even close to red-line. So if you want to hit 95 faster put in some 5:13 gears :)
#2 electric fan!!! no more drag from the heavy steel clutch fan!
#3 k&n filter will improve intake flow roughly 15%
#4 kill the ac! you could gain 15-20 hp just by installing a belt without AC
#5 exhaust many gains for top end can be made here our stock muffler is quite restrictive I recommend at least a straight through design muffler and while your at it try to get the muffler shop to run some 2.5" pipes with less bends or bends of a lesser angle.
#6 and least recommended is running moonshine or NoS :)

On a more serious end note one of the main problems we have in just about any pickup off the line is wheel hop. Get some traction bars!! Combined with big sticky tires you can get allot of extra spank off the line. If you do that you'll be wanting a better clutch soon.

Anything else like a turbo or super charger is gonna run u some bank and strain the heck out of your stock internals. I am all for an internal build if you have the space tools and know how. But swapping out your rear gears will get u 30% more torque with no engine mods.

gears

how much do 5:13 gears run for and about how much for installation?

do you really want to run 5000rpm on the highway?

5000rpm on the hwy

no, i just want to accelerate faster

hey my advise is study and figure out where you want your power and what you can sacrafice basically there is going to be a trade off for any mod look it up and come to your own conclusion everyone is going to give you their opinion you want what you want so study up and discover what you opinion is going to be and base your purchase off that
