Engine replacement questions

Local place here has an engine for $800 their cost, so $1000 cost to me (?) with what they SAY is low miles, but could be anything. "93 4.3 VIN W." Thinking of checking car-part.com, Or looking elsewhere. They may cut me a deal on labor.

A new engine means I wouldn't have to worry about compression test or block war page (?) on the hurting, blown 1994 I have in there. Unless heads and gaskets may solve that engine's problem........... ???

Questions:

1. What is s SHORT BLOCK? I have so many new parts on old, I'd need short block engine.

2. How do you hear an engine run while out of the car? I've seen it done before.

3. How much should it cost?

4. What about Remanufactured engines, warranties? They vary in cost too?

5. I need a new transmission, too. Am not junking this truck.

6. Shipping/removal of engine????

Vs:

7. My old engine. % chance that remanufactured HEADS and gaskets at shop will fix the problem in the video?

Because I have no clue where that teams leak is from, and changing engine/trans same time would solve rear main.

So I'm not entirely sure what to do here.

Low side of cost of repair? High side? Your thoughts on all this?

PS: not chancing water pump as long anymore.

Your going to end up paying more in the long run if you go with option 1, I would go with option 2. Rebuild if you can. I sent mine to the local machine shop and it had a cracked block, got a new donor block bored 30 over and a 3 angle valve job and block prep, piston final hone match and press, and hot tank for 900$

800 for that eng without documented miles it a gamble. those eng havn't been produced for a vehicle since 95. SOOO its up to you.

i see them in my area for 500 or less with 100k on them.

IMO tear yours down and see what you hae to work with. UNLESS you can find a vehicle with that eng with the eng running. YES you can run them out of the car, but its not easy being EFI.

Heh... Well, even now, I do not know if I have pressed-in or screwed-in rocker arm studs.

I am on car-[art.com seeing what is around.. The shop wants me to get a 1993, says "The computer could be different." I'd love to get a 1995...

Again, just in the thinking "For when i can get money and fix my truck for $1000 to $2000"...

I have not seen a GM eng with screw in studs, most are press-in.

if your truck is a 93 than you wont have a crank sensor, so any CPI eng should work. 92-95 should all be the same. I would doubt GM woudl engineer a diff set of heads for the 95 only motor.

Maybe 5 hp with a .060 overbore.

eng rebuild depends on alot. like if anything is cracked, what can be reused, if you need new pistons/rods, etc. it can be from a couple hundred to a few thousands. you wont know any of this until to disasemble your current engine.
