I just replaced my head gasket and cylinder head this weekend and now the truck runs extermly rough. what would cause this? could the rockers have been over tightened? i'm at a loss. any help would be really great
I did mine too about a month ago and have been having an ongoing off and on problem. I think i may have found it tho. i found a cracked spark plug.I just replaced my head gasket and cylinder head this weekend and now the truck runs extermly rough. what would cause this? could the rockers have been over tightened? i'm at a loss. any help would be really great
Go back thru with a compression test, if all of them are low maybe the valves aren't sealing.I just replaced my head gasket and cylinder head this weekend and now the truck runs extermly rough. what would cause this? could the rockers have been over tightened? i'm at a loss. any help would be really great
Yes.my question is i guess if you over tighten the rockers would it couse the valves to stick open just a bit??

if you dont have access to one, get in there and loosen them all off until you can wiggle the rockers. then tighten them up until they just seat firmly. grab some plastic and a friend, and take your shirt off. mask the surrounding areas of the engine off and get your friend to start the engine. for each rocker, back it off until the lifter starts making a racket, then tighten it back up until it stops, give it another 1/4 to 3/8 of a turn and move on to the next. when your done, thank your friend, take a shower, and dont forget to put some oil back in your engine![]()
There are little clips you can buy that divert the oil back down on the rocker so you don't have to Exxon Valdez the place.good investment= torque wrench

torque wrenches are absolutely awesome for this in the case of solid lifters, as the lash reqired has to be set with usually 16in/lb preload. with hydraulic lifters, tho, the method i explained above leaves no lash no matter what the preload that you need is, and you dont have to retorque near as often.Or better yet, go to Autozone and rent a torque wrench for free.
