I just bought this 1997 chevy s10 4cyl 2.2L. It was leaking oil so I had Pepboys replace seals and the leaking stopped. However the oil pressure gauge was still low. I bought a new switch from Advance Auto and change it out. First the gause read past the 80 mark, so i drained damn near all the oil out. It then read at the red mark by 0, I added some oil and not the gauge keeps fluctuating between 0 and past 80. Did anyone else have this problem or have any Idea how to fix it?

check the insterment cluster and the wires to the sensor but it could also be a bad pcm too anything electical test

Hey Mojuice,
I had the same problem with my 96 s10 recently. Mine would start out fine, but after the truck warmed up, it would drop to zero. If I rev the engine it will go back up a little. My check guages light also came on frequently. I changed the oil pressure sensor unit, and that didn't help. U can hook up a oil pressure guage directly where the sending unit is to see if you actually have oil pressure. It ends up I have good oil pressure, the guage is just messed up. I guess if I replace the wires to the guage, it will start working again. I just havn't done it yet. I would start by checking to see if you actually have oil pressure before you start replacing sending units and oil pumps.I hope this helps!
