Have a 1997ss 4.3 auto with 95000 miles. When I take off from standing still the motor goes up to about 2500 rpm before the truck starts to move. After it warms up it is not as bad and after the truck is moving there doesn't seem to be any problems. Changed the trans fluid and filter, no improvement. Any advise would be most appreciated. Thanks

did you install a stall converter and forget about it?

Sounds like either the torque convertor is breaking down, or like you said the tranny is slipping(which is more than likely). You could try pouring a bottle of lucas trans fix and see if it makes a difference. If not, plan for a rebuid in the future.
