I was wondering if the GM dealer can program my truck with different settings? I cant buy a power programer for my particular year, I can only buy premade upgrade chips. I was wondering if the dealer can use there factory computer to change some settings-mainly the o2 sensor stuff...

No.

The tech. 2 can do alot but it can also only change so much. They can stuff on and on, sweep gauges, and on some u can program tire sizes and program updates and stuff like that. Basically it is more for diagnostic than customizing. And even if they could I can only imagine what the price would be. I know at the dealership I worked at it was 85 bucks just to hook the tech. 2 up.

They have to charge those prices, to pay for new ones. One of the dealers left it hooked up, when the told me my truck was done, if I'd have know, they didn't fix my truck, I would have kept it.
I think they just charge those prices because they can. When they say computer I'm almost positive the customer thinks "wow a big machine that will instantly tell me why my car's MIL is on"

And then we come back and say don't fill up with the engine running that will be 85 bucks.

We had 3 tech. 2s in out shop. I think they cost around somewhere in the 2-4k range. Not sure on the price. But they got used daily like crazy. I bet we could pay for it in an easy 2 weeks.

So it could'nt be used to "turn off" the o2 sensor right before the cat?
No what I meant on turning stuff on and off is like the electric fans, interior lights, blow the horn, and millions of other things. But as far as sensors are conserned there is no way to turn them on and off with the tech. 2. Maybe an o2 simulator.

You need the O2 sensor before the cat, that's the one it controls from. You can only run a simulator on the one after the cat. Why would you want to turn it off anyway, you alway be in open loop mode and get bad mileage

Ahh ok now I know how those simulators work.

:stupid:

The information the 02 sensor gets it sends to the pcm which tells how much and air/fuel to mix.

Well, I cut out my cat, and then had a shop weld in a straight pipe. The one weld is pretty close to the front o2 sensor, and I was thinking the weld was too close and heated the sensor and maybe messed it up? A replacement o2 sensor was like $70...

I was looking at the website for them, and it says only use the simulator for the o2 sensor after the cat(for emissions) It wont work on the one for before the cat(air/fuel ratio) My gas milage has been shit lately and that was one of the things I changed/modded on the truck. Is there any way to test the o2 sensor with my electric meter?

Does your check engine light come on? And I just can't remember how to test those for the life of me. I just always used the tech. 2 for data from all the sensors to see what they are doing.

You either need a scanner or an O-scope to check them. Jusy take it to Advanced or Autozone and have them scan it, for free.

nah man the dealer aint gona do that, tech 2 cant make it change much settings def not for performance. it costs alot because the diag fee is that, people need to realize that gm makes the labor rates and such not ur dealer, i work at one and i think there crazy too
