is it possible to throw some gauges from an Xtreme into a stock s10? i like the way they look and if im going to X my truck i might as well have them. i like the tach and the layout of them in general. just wondering. wasnt sure which forum to put this on.

see...right now i have no tach...so if i get the gauges i want the ones with a tach and similar mileage since it keeps track no matter what....it wont reset to my truck. what am i going to have to do to hook the tach up?

sounds like your gonna have to buy some sorta wiring deal from a dealership. You may have to have your guages re-calibrated also. It's kinda hard to find a shop that'll do that but they might re-set your mileage but IDK. Yeah you're getting into some heavy stuff b/c if your cluster didn't come with the tach, that means it didn't come with the wires for it either

well that sux....i figured that they wired all the s10s the same and i just had to locate them. im coming up on 60000 so if anything ill mark my mileage and subtract it.
im not for certian but did any of the xtremes come WITHOUT a tach.....dont think they came that way but ya never know.

whoa buddy i dunno where you heard that but everyone ive talked to said that a tach cluster will plug right into a non tach truck. theres like 18 wires (?? someone correct me??) in the harness, one of them is the tach, i want to say brown but i cant remember. ive never heard that it wasnt simply plug and play, do a search, you'll see what im talking about.

edit: as an afterthought the only thing aside from mileage you'll have a problem with is if you get the tach from a truck with a different engine. the 4.3L trucks redline differently then the 2.2's so the tach reading will be off unless you get the cluster from the same type of truck.

i kinda thought this was correct.....that i could hook a tach up stock. i'll probably try s10warehouse or someone like that and find one from a 2.2. havent found any parts places here like a pick n pull or auto wrecker but if i can ill check it out.....anyone know anything about the wireing? if i do it im going to do it right (solder) and keep it klean.

no wiring its all plug and play seriously just make damn sure you get one from 2.2 if you got a 2.2 or a 4.3 if you got a 4.3... I hooked a after market tach up to mine the clusters here in louisville was like 150.00 plus my old cluster... also the milage that is on the new cluster will be displayed on your truck... the milage is burned into the cluster no the bcm

weird i never looked but people with tach whats the red line on yours and what size motor the 4.3 is at 5 grand 4 bangger gotta be the same and i have sold about 200 clusters now and only ever heard of one problem thats dont try to put anything but a 98 in a 98 .. other then that their is no wireing needed its like putting in a tape player in place of a cd player

if its plug and play that would be smokin for me but i dont think it will....i think im going to have to run the wire for the tach.....but hope for the best, plan for the worst

well on the 98-up it looks like the v6 is red line at 5100 and the 2.2 is redline at 5500 either way i dont think it matters its not like the truck shuts off at red line or anything ... and you DO NOT need to wire anything just plug in a clueter with tach and it works!

the differance between the tachs is the tach will not show the correct reading if it is for a differant size engine... such a 4 cly tach will show a drastically higher reading for a 6 cl engine and a 6l tach will barely move and will be very eratic the way to tell the differance between the tachs is the redline also GM changed the signal to the tachs in mid 99 from analog to a digital signals

this is all some good stuff to know. im really glad everyone knows this truck.....just didnt know about the 6 and 4 cylinder.....figured a tach reads the RPMs the same way. didnt know it could be programmed or whatever from the factory to be motor specific.

hey s10warehouse.....how much for a cluster from a 98+ xtreme with CLOSE to 60,000 miles on it?

another question.......i think its been asked before but not sure. figure ill ask.

with those white face gauges....HOW DO YOU INSTALL THEM? all i can see is that the clear plastic piece is glued on. i figure they would install the same way as one of those metal covers i see on ebay.
