I'm not talking about the typical exhaust and air filter upgrades. I'm wondering about all the little things that could get some "clean" horsepower out of the engine without using a lot more gas. I've heard from some that chips are really worhtless and the only way they really help out is with shift points when they're set right. Any mod at all is appreciated.
I don't have a performance muffler because I haven't found one relatively quiet enough to meet my wants. I don't particularly care to make my engine loud when its not as smooth as a v8 but has the same tones as a 350. Its just kind of awkward and attracts negative attention. IMO. I do have a k&n filter though in my stock intake. I'm just looking to make her run as efficiently as possible. Thanks

Send your heads to me or let me sell you a set of ported heads. Its a good mod, and it wont hurt gas milage. I can port the exhaust ports a good deal better than stock, smooth up the intake runners a bit (cant really do alot to the intake runners since the pushrods are so close) i can unshroud the valves which promotes low lift flow such as the stock cam produces. I can cut any angle valve job you would like. I recommend cutting a 4 angle valve job, angles are as follows 30, 45, 60, 75 degree angle. Also by cutting the stock valves to a 30 degree seat (to match the 30 degree angle in the 4 angle valve job) will produce better flow because it unshrouds the valves quicker. If every thing i explained above is done right it should atleast make a good 20 HP over the stock (unported heads.) I can also have the milled for higher compression ratios for $25 a head. Anytime you make the compression tighter you create more HP and TQ. There are lots of things that can but tweaked on stock head to improve effiecience and flow.

But the rise in compression also calls for higher octane fuel. It sounds like hes trying to save money on gas. It's a good idea if your looking for high performance but if it's your daily driver I'd keep the compression you have and go for basic bolt- ons. Pretty much anything that you put on that increases airflow or allows less friction is going to increase mpg. Don't forget that just keeping your wheels balanced, in alignment, and properly inflated will keep your mpg up too.

Hey, ive got E-fans and underdrive pulleys on my truck and it gets about 2-4 more mpg's than i was getting when it was stock. Go to a junk yard and get an e-fan off an LS1 camaro or trans am... they fit nice but if you cant find em' i got ones of a chrysler some'thin or another and they worked fine. and get a set of march pulleys (100 bux). I also have a cold air intake which helped with gas milage... i guess droping in a K&N doesnt do a whole lot so i hear.... look on ebay for a seller by the name of "chromeintakes", i got mine from him for 70 bux which came with at cottone gauze filter just like a K&N, you should make a heatsheild if you go that way though... it got pretty warm with out it. im getting ready to do my exhaust and hope to ad some more mpgs that way too. This helped me but its just my suggestion.

You need to use the search button bro.

This has been covered 100s of times.

Search for:

Performance Mods
Bolt ons

Honestly, use the Search function, it will save you a lot of time and you will get much better information from the numerous threads on this topic.

I considered that, but I wasn't sure what keywords to use. Its much easier to find things in an audio forum where you can just enter a model number. Here I was just blind coming into it, I'll do a search though and look at some other stuff. Its strange coming from a forum where you know a good bit, then completely coming into something else and starting all over again.:)

Very true.

The search feature and 5 minutes of nosing around and 40 hours worth of information will be at your finger tips on this forum.
