I need suggestions for restoration of 1998 S-10 ZR2 5-
speed manual 2-door model. Onyx Black/LS Trim/ Beige Cloth Interior. Outside spare wheel mount/Locking Differential Real Axle.
Purchased new in 1998/ only 130,000 miles.
No body damage, but significant sun damage of rear window mounting (non-metallic trim). Can this be restored and painted? Recommendation for paint job: should paint shop remove fender flares, luggage rack, spare wheel mount? Weather-sealing is bad. Are replacements available? Factory interior (seats, door panels, headliner, carpet are OK, but dash board and instrument panel bezel are a mess- sun damage. Are any factory dash boards still available? What is the cost of dash removal and replacement?

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like the truck has a fairly solid base to start from. Can you post photos? Do you have a budget in mind?

I will try to attach a photo. I expect a good paint job (including replacement of weather strips) and work on the back window trim to run a few thousand $. I don't want to go overboard on the interior, but will be willing to pay for dash removal if this is necessary to get a good repair of the sun damage. Would prefer to find a factory dash replacement rather than a glue-over cover. A dash removal may be necessary to get a good job on a glue-over. I don't see anything on the new car market that I like as well as this off-road SUV. And I want to keep this truck in original factory configuration as much as possible.

You can always get a dash cover that just lays on the dash, it doesn't have to be glued or taped down. Even if it's temporary until you find a replacement dash.
My wife's minivan has a black leather interior that gets pretty warm in the sun, even here in the PNW, so I ordered a light gray dash cover for it, and it fits and works perfectly. And no, it doesn't slide off.
