This morning on Motor Trend TV GM revealed a ZZ4.3 Motor that will be available for Purchase through your local GM Dealer. It is a direct Factory bolt in replacement for the 4.3 in our trucks. Average swap would take a weekend. Now for the sweet part....

How about 260 Horse at 5800 RPM
How about 277 Lb/ft Torque at 4400 RPM

Motor Trend took a set of headers and a 3" Cat Back (yes 3" Now that the motor breathes so well) and banged out 295 Horse and 300 Lb/ft of torque. I dont know about you guys but there may be an LT1 for sale soon. Think about it. A true bolt in and a factory warranty... Bob Lutz truly is a GOD LOL. Keep an eye out for more on this sweet 6

The Chevy ZZ4.3 S-10 Xtreme also breaks new ground in the truck world with bolt-on horsepower, thanks to the performance parts specialists at General Motors Service Parts Operations (GMSPO). A special hand-fabbed intake manifold boosts the output of the modified 4.3-liter Vortec V6 to 260 horsepower at 530p rpm and 277 lb.-ft of torque at 4400 rpm. The gears are selected by the driver through a five-speed manual transmission.

i seen that to my 4.3 has 125k on it forget a stock crate . if i can get that zz4.3 ill be set. how nice is 290hp with the same size and weight engine with a factory warranty.anyone know when availible and price?:thumbup:

Year Old?. On the same show with 2003 C5 vettes?. You sure about that? Gonna look around...Ill check there site for show dates

You know its been over two years now gm has been tempting us with this intake. first they say it will be released. then they change their minds. then they change their minds yet again... i would not be surprized if they are going to be offering it again. but who knows if they ever will.

Ok, is this a misprint?

How does an intake manifold allow an engine which redlines at 5100 and generates peak power at 4400 move to peak power generation at 5800? and a redline above that?

The peak torque is originally at 2800, now at 4400?

I'm no expert, but am I missing something?

yeah, a manifold can bump the power curves like that, exchanging low RPM efficiency for high-rpm breathablity.

Ok, but I thought valvetrain components and bore-over-stroke ratio is what usually limits the revs. The intake just changes effeciency at different RPM bands, right? So how does an intake manifold allow piston speeds to go higher? Or valvetrain components to stay within tolerance while moving faster?

Look at it this way... A 4.3 is a small block with 2 cylinders lopped off. A small block stock can easily go to 6k RPM. Its limited because spinning it over 5500 does nothing at all. actually lose loads of power. By increasing the breathing ability you can raise the operating range of the motor. Bore and stroke do play a part but a lot of the motors today are limited for other reasons besides longevity.

OK, i'm still learning so I guess I got my theory messed up with the real world.

So our engines are mainly limited by flow? So a tunnel ram would help out revs vastly right? I bet a higher flow TB would help quite a bit also.

Would a tunnel ram help?...Yeah if you spend all your time driving above 5000 RPM. As far as the throttle bodies go. Yes your right..To a point. No use fillin a wine glass with gallon of water if your pourin it through a straw. The limiting factor with these motors is the intake manifold. The throttle body is good to around 300 horsepower.

so basically what would happen with the zz4.3 crate motor is you would buy it, and before you drop it in, you would call up mach performance and buy the new race supercharger they r gonna be coming out wiht, because you have to make like 300 hp before you can install that, and then you would have one fast ass truck, god i would love that so much, we really need the zz4.3 crate motor

and yes that was a brand new episode of motor trend tv on, my friend called me when he saw it on tv and i watched it

Well I know parts of the show were a year old. That SS has graced all the major mags the last year, and thats when the ZZ4.3 was annouced. It was permantly canceled Oct./ 01.

We will know for sure this Friday. Spoke to the service manager of dealership that sold me my truck. He's gonna make a few phone calls..

Thanks for the insight guys.

Also, is the only difference between our engines and teh crate motor the intake? Just wondering b/c GM does have 18degree heads, aluminum blocks, and other goodies for the 4.3 on the perormance parts sight.
