what is the best way to lower the front of my zq8 approx 1". if i use springs which ones? and will i need to change my shocks?

I think if you use 3" springs, it should lower it 1 1/2" I think. And no, you won't need new shocks.

Why just an inch? Drop it at least 2/3 with spindles and blocks.

i was thinking about 2/3...but i don't want to be removing bumpstops, and besides i still load up the truck once in a while

I went with spindles. I have 3" drop springs on my Xtreme and you ride on the bumpstops. Now that I have my stock springs and spindles, it's the same height and it rides normal not on the bump stops. Spindles are the way to go!

That's 2/3 on top of the stock ZQ8 drop correct?...(basically I'm asking if it's the equivalent of a 3.5/4.5 drop from non ZQ8 S-10's)
