My 1995 s10 had a trailer wiring harness . I took it off. Now I need to know what color wires go where. I have brake lights turn signals and back up light's. But the brown wire coming out of the main plug is cut . What do I wire up to it. Whoever havd it before me had a mess and I'm still trying to figure it out. I need a step by step explanation on what color wire I need to wire back and what wires I need to splice and put together. I hope all this makes sense I need help bad can't even drive at night. Pretty much someone to explain to me what color wires I need to hook into what color wires please

Also I have no running lights and the cluster in the dash comes on when I put my truck in reverse and when I hit my brake pedal the ding noise comes on as if you're opening the door the keys in ignition

A color coded OE wire diagram would be a good "treasure map" to aquire for the tasks @ hand. You'll be needing the OE service manual it comes in for lotsa other things too.

A fine case of wiring spaghetti to get sorted out, but not too bad. I'd start by getting rid of any of the non (color) matching wires that are spliced into (or extending) the original harness - that only adds to the confusion / challenge of tracing wires. Also delete all of the twisted wire connections and the wire nut joints. Then, you will need likely need to get some new individual (stranded) replacement wires with jacket colors to match the harness wires (& of the proper/ same gauge). One method for reconnecting the wires is using heat shrink marine grade crimp butt connectors (of the appropriate size(s) for the wire gauges), using a good crimping/ wire stripping (a Klein 1010 for instance) tool. Another method is to use heat shrink tubing and soldered joints, if that is a skill set you are proficient with. Make sure the wire ends are clean and corrosion free to insure good conductivity. You can do temporary connections to validate the functionality prior to making up the permanent connections. Just remember, this area has high exposure to road conditions, so it's critical to make sure all of the connections are solid and watertight.

Easy to remember. If the color has an L in it, it's for the left. If it has a R in it it's for the right. If it has a T in it it's tail lights.
yellow is left turn and brake
green is right turn and brake
tan is tail and license plate lights
black is ground - bolts to frame. Black is always ground on GM
light green is back up lights
If you hook all the same color ones together it should work right.
On trucks with a factory trailer harness red is 12V for aux power to the trailer for use for interior lighting, etc. Not connected under the hood until you connect it to something.
Dark blue is for trailer brakes. It's also not connected under the hood. You need to connect it to the trailer brake controller.
There is also a white or light blue not connected to anything, in the harness. It's for CHMSL on a cap or bed cover should you need it.
