Just finished my carb swap on my 97 zr2. Installed inline fuel pump. Cut power to the in tank pump. Now gas guage doesn't work. Can any one tell me which wire I need to disconnect on the factory harness at the tank. To disable the in tank pump but still use the fuel guage.

Gray is pump. It's the only one you should cut.

I cut the Grey wire at the pump. My fuel guage doesn't work now. Worked fine before. Any ideas? As far as guages my oil pressure works, volt guage works. Temp guage works. The speedo and odometer quit also with I expected to happen. Tach works. Just need to figure out this fuel guage though.

The problem shouldn't be related to the fuel level sensor/float. Those will be the two smaller gauge wires at the pump module plug, most likely a purple wire and a black wire.

I'd reconnect it back to factory to verify the issue is related with cutting power to the fuel pump. Maybe you blew a fuse somehow. I don't really believe there are any cross circuits that share the power of the fuel pump grey wire or anything that depends on the fuel pump working. Should be the same scenario of when your in tank pump dies but the gauge still works and tells you how much gas is in the tank. I don't think it will give you a different result but you may try hooking up the grey power wire and cutting the heavy gauge black wire which is fuel pump ground.

You said in your first post you cut all the wires to the fuel pump. Well @oldeerslayer posted schematics to show you what wires need to be and what one need to go. Then you say you only cut the grey wire... which is is? And why eliminate the in tank pump? is it still in there where your new pump needs to pull fuel through it? If so this will strain the new pump. The old one should be removed and replaced with a piece of tubing.
