Windshield strip ???

I'm putting my 2000 LS10 back together from getting a paint job.
What the heck is the sticky black goo in groove of the rubber strip for the windshield? It's for the rubber strip at the top of the windshield, between the glass & the cab. It's not silicone, because it doesn't harden. It's not strip caulk either. It was like a sticky black tar.

along the same lines, is there supposed to be an adhesive holding the strip that goes along the bottom of the windows that are on the doors? i can just pop mine off and it doesnt seem right....
When the doors are closed, the gasket is under compression, so unless it is severely comprised, it shouldn't be a problem. That's better than trying to scrape off decades old sealer.
right on, mine is so loose i can just pull it off with ease. maybe i will try a junk yard piece.
lots of wind noise on the one door too. i occasionally see it bouncing a bit while driving.
do you know if a blazer one would be the same?
I would think so. If you get a replacement, get OEM. I had aftermarket weather strips on the wifes old ZR2 Blazer and you had to get a running start at the door to get it closed,
