My temp gauge hasn't worked for a while so yesterday I decided to fix it. After staring at the one on the top of the engine for an hour, I finally discovered that my temp sending unit that is on the lower passenger side of the engine was broken. Got it fixed and I was good to go.

So why is there one next to the t-stat housing and then on the lower engine? Could mine being broken possible caused any issues with gas mileage or emissions?

One is for the gauge and the other is for the ECM, the newer trucks only have one, since the PCM sends ther signal to the dash clustrer
