I have an incredibly dumb question for everyone, which belt would I need on my engine because the center part of the engine all the belts work power steering fan etc. but my alternator is missing a belt. Do I need to redo the whole serpentine belt or can I buy a belt to facilitate just the alternator?

Thank You

Is there such a belt for the alternator? That just seems odd but all my other **** works minus the alternator.
Not sure what you are up against - can you post a picture of the situation? Do you have a single (serpentine) belt, or multiple belts? The original posting seems to have contradictory references in it. Is there a belt routing diagram decal in the engine compartment?

I’ll check when I get out of work and also take a picture.

Here's another option: take the truck to a reliable auto parts store and let them help you find the right belt(s).

Duz this mean vehicle is currently inop ?
Or merely a statement of add'l but not insurmountable fixes needed ?
Perhaps just a slow roll reveal of maladies that need addressing?

The 86 is the bastard child year with that weird v belt/ribbed belt combo. Only 1986. So it does require two belts. One of them will look like a regular serpentine belt, but it's obviously narrower, and I as I recall it isn't tensioned like a normal serpentine belt. It has one V belt, which I "think" was the alternator. Been a long time since I was under the hood or an 86.

Figures lol
So, if that's the case, now all you need to do is confirm what all peripherals are on the engine (A/C, smog pump, alternator, etc.) to determine which belt is applicable from the link I posted in #3 above.

Belt thing becoming pretty big deal !
Sure seems like much ado about not much, but just trying to lend a hand. I haven't got anything else to contribute, so, per Arnold: "Hasta la vista, baby".
