since i got my truck, the two door speakers flickered on and off randomly, and recentyl neither work at all...
and since im stuck at home doing nothing (wisdom teeth) i figure if i feel better i can start tracing down that problem.

should i start from the radio or the speaker side? and where would you think is the problem?

well for a while the door speakers were flickering on and off... so maybe.
but is it possible for just the 2 door speakers part of the head unit to die with the dash speakers working fine?

Im pretty sure you can lose any speakers in a head unit. I had an old Fosgate head unit that lost either just the left or right side....I cant remember.
