Looking at the velaster's i wouldve traded in a heartbeat.. the only good thing your s10 has going for it, is sentimental, and that step side bed, other than that, its an s10.

I was going to post some self righteous comment about how the first car I purchased was my deceased grandpa's old rusted 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera from my Dad and how much I loved that car. Then I remembered how I had turned down my other grandpa's pristine several year old mid '90s Geo Metro with 30k miles on it. He had just retired and my grandparents offered it to me for $3500. Granted it was a Metro, but 50 mpg would have served me much better and would have lasted longer than the worn out Iron Duke that got me barely 20 mpg. I ended up sinking close to $3,000 into the Olds and it still died 2 years later.

Sometimes what you want for your kids or grandkids just isn't what they want and there isn't anything you can do about it. He is young and doesn't have the same life experiences you have and he doesn't see the big picture. Sometimes they have to learn the hard way. And maybe an old truck really isn't for him and a newer car would serve him better. It hurts, but to hold a grudge doesn't help anything, especially over an old economy compact truck, ZQ8 suspension, stepside, and beautiful yellow aside. I, and most others on here can appreciate the time, effort, and money you have put into that low mileage truck and it sounds like your granddaughter does too. Enjoy that she appreciates what you have and wants to spend the time and effort to learn with you. But try to not hold it against your grandson.

I am upset that he didn’t appreciate it. Just like I was upset my son didn’t want Want the 76 El Camino I had built for him at 16. I hold no grudge to either of them. I am lucky in a way my daughter still owns the 82 Z28 I got her for her and it still runs and need to be restored she says when I retire we will restore it. Perhaps my granddaughter will be like her mother.

Once you give something to someone, it's no longer yours. What they choose to do with it is their business. At least the grandson was up front about it. Not sure why all the hate and criticism.

me and my duaghter built this nice 1st gen blazer together. Paint, body work, V8 swap, thing was real nice. she drove it for about 6 months, and then wanted a PT cruiser. We can hope they follow us, and have the same interested in vehicles, but their so much different than us growing up. Cars were sort of all we had, lifelong memories, we arent the new kids at all. A chevelle, GTO, superbird, looks dumb to these new folks. I mean, can you blame them? A 69 camaro getting 5 miles to the gallon, no ac, cant stop in under 100 feet, drives and rides like a brick... compare that to anything new. some of those hondas/mitsubishis/hyundais can dirve circles around anything from the 60s.. get good fuel mileage, and can walk away from a 50 mph crash.

More or less I took it as you were just venting. It definitely hurts and probably more so after what happened with your son, but that just shows how much you wanted to do something nice for them. Both my grandpa's have passed away, and lived out of state, so I didn't really get to do much with them. But I am always thankful for the time I did get to spend with them. And the one who had the Metro? I was able to use his GM discount to help purchase my 2003 S10 almost 20 years ago. Which I still drive.

It was typed like that in an effort to decrease the attention afforded the grandson and visually emphasize the GRAND DAUGHTER, since she is the child with a higher level of respect for her grand father and more advanced social skills.
Technically you only capitalize grand mother when used in place of a name. Grand mother, thank you. I didn't run over my grandmother. 1 or 2 words is also acceptable.

Y’all are correct I used the terms Son, Daughter, Grandson, and Granddaughter. I do so to give context to relationships. Name’s would have no meaning as to relationships in this forum. I built my Son a dirt track car at 14 he raced junior class until 16. The first year he was rookie of the year. Second year finished 5th in points. The El Camino was traded for a 02 Dakota which he proceeded to remove the back seat and fill the space with speakers and amps. I knew then he just wasn’t a car guy. He is a Pharmacist. I am proud of him and I even ride in his Lexus Hi breed.

They all don't look like this. They have been out for awhile and most are beat. But, I get your point, They have considerable amount of value compared to a 20+ year old S-10. Bring that truck north and east the value rises quite a bit.

I learned not to give cars as if they don't earn it they don't value it.

My daughter drove my 88 S15 until the engine quit. Ok the 2.8 engine is crap and it was full of sludge even tho I did regular Mobile 1 oil changes. Leaky intake manifold gaskets.

So I let her drive my sweet T-top 93 MR2... Her mother/my ex asked her if she ever checked the oil and then made her do it and it wasn't even on the stick! So I gave her my dad's Oldsmobile. So it wasn't a MR2. It was a nice car and it was quick with that engine. She trashed it. Never again.

The granddaughter seems a cut above big brother so that may work out.

I recently became a parent to my first child, she is only 10 weeks old right now. As an all around car guy who has never owned a car that I didn't heavily modify, I think about how awesome it would be if my daughter was into cars like her daddy is one day. Then I read the headlines about all car manufacturers going full electric by 2035 and it makes me fear for the future. Will my kids be driving full electric cars in school? Will my kid be offended that I even own an internal combustion engine car? All i can do is take my kid for a ride in my Camaro and my blazer every once and awhile and hope that she catches the car itch. I think this is just an example of how kids are nowadays, some kids love video games, some kids love sports, and some kids love having Mazda Miatas with maxed out camber... Its just the way of the generation. I was taught to appreciate and take care of everything I ever owned, but todays generation is taught that everything is meant to be used until it no longer works, then throw it out and buy the newest version. If your grand daughter will appreciate it, then save it for her. that's my .2 cents, for what its worth.

We gave a 97 honda accord V6 to our great-niece when she turned 16. It was in great shape other then the clear coat was flaking off. It was my wife's car and it was loaded,V6 leather, and a SLAMMING sound system. She F-ed it up soooo bad. Tor up the inside and ran into things to where the bumper covers fell off then she parked it. It need nothing when we gave it to her, it had 80K-ish miles. Now she has a Kia that she takes care of. Kids today don't have brains........

My dad had a million expressions, but one of my favorites was, "Son, you can drive that pickup as far as you want with no gas in it, but never without oil or coolant". Sounds goofy but it worked, I'm a dipstick and radiator checkin' fool!
