(dippedBLAZER) If you tell us what you like and or what you have an maybe add a picture we can give you more help. But in my opinon start with the MOTOR,EXHAUST first. I'v seen more guys dump thousands in looks on a sick and tired motor that broke down alot or needed to be rebuilt. GET the running gear up to speed and that will give you a good foundation to make it look pretty!!!!!!!!! :)

K&N FIPK, First off. No question. Check out my site for mods vs. improvements.

Hey (ClagarySS), that's some GREAT info. you have it looks like the (Granetelli MAF) WORKS. I was looking into getting one, and it looks like I will. Also WHEN did you put the E-FAN on and did it help? My HPPIII does not call for the 160 thermo only on the V8's. yours must be different or did HYPERTECH change over the years due to testing. You may try a RUN with a 180?

For 30 bucks you can accomplish the same thing as the K&N FIPK. Proven numbers. Some people like name brands, I like saving money. As far as the 160 therm photo. On our trucks you will regret running it. Call hypertek yourself and they will tell you the same thing. As far as first mod.......EXHAUST. Oh and for about 12 dollars in dremel tools you can accomplish the same thing as the Gran. MAF by modding your own. For 300 bucks I can think of other things for the truck that will give me 7 - 12 horsepower. JMO Hope this helps..

DUDE, get te exhaust FIRST it will open up the motor and help it GO FAST. My GENIII K&N was $339 PLUS SHIPPING. remember you need to get AIR in and get it out fast to make POWER. Some guys made there owne intake's and it's cheap AND IT WORKS. :headbang:

well alright. After Photo sounding like an exhaust is the best thing to do. I'll go for that.

By the way How do you like the Flowmaster 40 series delta flow ?? Single or Dual??

Definitely put a 40 series flowmaster on, that is what I miss most from my truck and I am driving a stock truck now.

Those GEN II's and such cost too much.
If I were you, I would get the less expensive ones and
use the rest of the money on the exhaust. I don't think there's
going to be that much of a difference between the expensive
intakes and the cheaper ones. 1 or 2 hp is not worth an extra $100 or $200.

I got my intake for $69.
It has the same K&N filter as the expensive version.

Remeber (dippedBLAZER) the hole idea with the intakes is to get cooler AIR in, and get it in FAST. Others will get it in fast but the K&N GENII will keep it cooler due to the thick materiel that it's made out of. After adding the GENII, I went from a 4' burn out to a 12' and after driving I can stop and touch the intake and it's warm. My friend has a metal one and I can't keep my hand on it that long. He needs a heat shield to help block the motor/radiator heat like the GENII. He is looking in to getting some materiel to make one.

For 50 Bucks I put together this homemade Intake/heat sheild. It's mor elbow grease than anything else...Just becuase it's homemade doesn't mean it can't run....If I were to compare the FIPK to this setup, A freind of mine has the FIPK. when I finished this both trucks had the exact same mods and it was a dead even race...He had no advantage...He spent $300..I spent 50.....

http://www.s10forum.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4844&highlight=homemade

After this mod I spent 3 hours smoothing the underside of the factory airbox hood. Replaced the flex ducting with PVC wrapped in heat reflective Tape and relocated Air temp sens to top of airbox. Fluke meter w temp probe showed a 23 degree drop in intake temp after this mod when running for a half hour....Than went on to reove MAF screen and center bar from MAF polishing it to finish the Mod.

So whats wrong with using a 160* thermo?
Asper (HYPERTECH) on some of the older 4.3's and really on the 99 to 02 the 160 makes the motor run too cool and the performance drops off (stock is 195 for mine). Also in Cali. the YOU will not pass SMOG bue to the un-burnt gas caused by the 160 thremo. Also the MPG will drop alot. the 160 is made for V8's and older 4.3's. I'v heard that adding a high out put ignition system/coil will help with the 160 thermo. Some 4.3's need to be HOT to perform and 20 or 35 degrees is to much of a drop in temp. The 180 seems to be the right one but I would try it to really see if it works for you.
