I’m helping a buddy with a different challenge. He has a 1937 Chevy Deluxe. We went through 3 motors from the parts yard and none worked. I gave him my 3.8 motor and transmission from my 1986 Grand National. The car has an S10 steering wheel mounted in it, with a bucket of other stuff on the floor!

Don’t mean to ramble and long story short, His brothers were supposed to build this car with him but both died on the same day from different ailments. That leaves me to help him and I barely know how to work on this 3.8. I have the engine harness for the 3.8 installed and getting wiring for the bulkhead connection. Is there a universal dash wiring ignition wiring I can use to connect the steering wheel to the ignition etc. to make this run? I at least have all the steering column wires identified but I don’t know where to go from here. (I’ll try to post pictures.) Any hints would be appreciated and of course I can forward more info if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the help!

Probably the simplest approach is to get an aftermarket wiring harness designated to work with a chevrolet steering column. Search "automotive wiring harness", see what the cheapest will do and work your way up in cost until you see one that works for your situation.

I’ll give that a try. It’s gunna be involved. I got the engine running just with the grand national engine harness and switches. I’m stuck from here but this search is a start.
Thanks!

I do have the entire wire loom from the blazer but it’s all cut up and cut off. Guess I’ll search for some directions too

Who made the wiring harness? They should have instructions.
If this is for the ignition switch, I suspect the wires are 12v power in, constant 12v power to ignition and intermittent power to starter.
Looking at it again, these appear to be in the engine compartment and are probably "owner designated" for whatever requires a 12v switched power source.

Thanks for responding. I got it from Caspers. It is not a stock replacement for the Regals but it’s a “Light” version to Power the engine. It has Tach, Oil pressure gage, water temp gauge feeds, torque convertor lock up. Also has a mating fuel pump connection.

The key switch instructions Red: HOT ALL TIMES, Orange Hot in Start and Run, and Purple: Start ONLY. An extra 12 gage feed is provided for vehicle power feeds.

So, I’m going to wire the rest of the car with a kit I find that’s compatible. This harness has extra fuse feeds to power the rest of the vehicle. I,m not sure what an ignition switch looks like on an S10 Blazer so I looked it up and it’s not the same as what’s dangling from the steering wheel I have. I DO have the pin out readings from the steering wheel. BUT I do see “ D2 Ignition switch output Off run crank” D2 red/white.

Thanks for your patience, Doug,
