ok i got my bastard of a truck started, and runnin and i can turn it off and start it back up, which is the most progess ive made in the past two days, but i still have a question/problem-- where does the volt gauge in the dash get its reading from?

is it off the alternator or directly off the battery?

cuz that is still lookin a lil low (bout 10 volts or so), but the battery might be low from me crankin and crankin on it in the past days

It gets it's "power" or source from the ignition source that is running the rest of the cluster. Basically a T-tap, but in the printed circuit on the back of the cluster.

my advice to you is since your a fan of advanced auto parts take your truck there and they will test your battery and alt free of charge and they should be able to pin point any problems
