Building a S10 / V8 conversion & have a 92 S10 for the build. I want to use the stock fuel tank with the mechanical fuel pump on the SBC Im using in the truck so my thoughts are to remove the in tank fuel pump / pickup tube / sending unit in favor of the pickup from a carbureted S10. I know that the mid 80's S10's had carburetors so my thoughts are to use say a 1984 S10 pickup / sending unit if it will fit the 92 tank? Anyone have experiance with this? Is there a better way I dont know about? Thanks

Take the pump out of the sending unit, pull the power wire off that supplies power to the pump and put a fuel submersible 3/8" fuel line in place of the pump cut the bottom of the line at an angle.

Yes it works fine, we did it in the early 90s on Grand Nationals to run dual external Bosch pumps

Or you could use the tbi pump and regulate it down. Having "cool" fuel circulating up to the carb then back to the tank will avoid issues with fuel boiling causing hot starting issues as well as running the fuel through a filter multiple times before it reaches the carb.

This also eliminates the need for a fuel pump, rod, and line running up the front of the block. You can have a firewall mounted regulatior and flexible line going to the carb for a much cleaner look.

Also eliminates the need to get at the in tank pump.
Done it both ways.
Being the cheap azz sob that I am I'd do the line in the tank and remove the electric pump. Be sure to zip tie the hose near the bottom of the assembly so that it can not curl up later on and stop reaching the fuel when you're at 1/4 tank.
Before you get too deep into this, have you checked you state and local laws regarding emission testing. Carb on a 92 might not fly.
