rust will be a problem. unless your planning on running stainless frame rails. exhaust fumes can get pretty corrosive.

^^^ if you try it out id use some sort of flex exhaust steel braided like some toyota's have to tie the engine to the chassis so it can flex with the engine moving when torqued and just vibrations..

dont laugh... but it could be an idea.... you wanted dual 3" pipes, but they are gona be hard to fit under there. Soooo.. would it be very hard to run 4 2" pipes back under the cab of the truck? it would come out of the headers and right there at the collector flange, each side would split into 2 pipes running side by side down each side of the frame. Back at the mufflers, just run a dual inlet muffler with a single 3" output.

would work.... I would think 2 2" pipes would have the same flow as one 3" pipe. :dunno:

Lol. Then you won't have to worry about driving it down the road either cause the cops'll come running as soon as they hear it.

Flat tubing is the way to go man. Like 2x3s or even 1x4s and then bend the end of it to fit your 3" rounds when you get the room.

Just make a small hump on the passenger side and put the pipes there. it's not that much more work at all. it'll pay off because you'll get the right flow all the way around.

sounds like your trying to cut corners and your just going make more problems in the long run.

best bet is to just add in a hump, line it with some type of heat sheild, then wrap the pipes as well and go with it.

i am mostly wanting to use the frame as the exhaust to clear up some clutter and for cosmetics.

i can fit dual exhaust tubes under the body but i really dont like the look of exhaust tubing and it will be close to the cab floor and it would look even worse with some kind of heat wrap around the tubes.

would the rust get so bad inside it would rust thru 1/4'' steel?
can i coat the inside with something to prevent rust? i have heard of rust inhibitor before..

Don't worry about the heat just run some exhaust tubes don't do some crazy ass BS with running exhaust through the frame and all that. There is insulation that companies make to line the floor of a car or truck with to prevent heat from the tranny and exhaust from coming into the cab.

As for cosmetics which I doubt many will worry about looking under your truck if it's on the ground because they can't, run polished stainless steel exhaust and paint the frame to make it all pretty.

And bagdbug how are you gonna remove the tube from the inside of the frame?

I'm fully aware this is an old thread. With that said, how do you think I arrived here? I can tell you, because it was the 4th site listed for a Google search for "using framerails for exhaust".
That being the 4th search attempt wording that finally got me a discussion on topic.
Oval exhaust tubing ceramic coated and heat wrapped. If you only wrap the parts that get hot, how is it possible to have "wet heat wrap"? Anyone that has used heat wrap knows it dries very quickly if it gets wet while running. Condensation inside the exhaust pipe comes out as white smoke in the form of water vapor from a cold start. It vaporizes from heat wrap in the same fashion. It will also greatly reduce condensation in the exhaust pipe because it's insulated. This is the answer anyone searching those terms is probably seeking. It took research, discussion, and practice to formulate the solution. I would have been ecstatic if it was here when I was searching, so I'm paying it forward.
