Truck cranks but doesnt start the engine. It had a problem with a long crank before starting and now it it wont start. When it first happened i thought it was the battery and it started rough with a jump and stalled shortly after. I have cleaned points on distrubuter and has spark to spark plugs, from the coil and to coil. Also checked timing its in time and goes through full cycle with the smell of full. Fuel pump whines. I have no idea what to check now.

What do you mean you cleaned the points on the distributor? GM hasn't used points since the 70's.
Since you have spent some time on the ignition, a quick way to see if it's wanting fuel would be give it a small shot of starting fluid. If it tries to start with that the problem is fuel.
Depending on which 4.3L you have, you may need to make sure a pressure tester you use has a TBI adapter so that you can connect the tester. It installs between the line and the throttle body.

I used starting fluid didnt change anything, the points under the distributor cap and also thought of the crank position sensor but it had the slot for it but there was no wires or sensor for it

I’m going to take a guess and assume you mean the contact on the distributor cap.

You cleaned this? I thought 72 was the last year GM used points.

Did you check the dwell on a Sun Engine Analyzer to be sure the points were set correctly? 50 Years ago I was an expert, trained by Sun on how to operate one. Been 45 years since I touched one and don't even remember how to turn it on.

I just checked the fuel pressure and only read 12 psi, so I changed the fuel pressure regulator, still wont start the engine

he ment contacts in cap. not everyone knows the lingo
you need like 53 lbs pressure while accelerating or it will stall out.. went through this myself ,pullling my hair out . my pump was leaking extend just as it came out of tank, didn't really notice cause i had sprayed rust bust on nuts n retainer ring but once i wire brushed lines it then sprayed away like crazy . cut a hole in the bed to access the pum;p.i have measurements that are accurate if you need them. all the ones i found online including this site were wrong... it is easy to figure out though you want a hole about 12 inches byu 16 inches for nice easy access.n splice the ground to ease things upas well.. trust me... n buy the new pump on amazon its like 45 bux instead of up to 400.--
