So i dont know to much about transmitions and rearends. I have a 97 with a 2.2. automatic transmition out of a 96 v6 camaro. will swapping out the rearend do anything for me or is it pointless? and if so what rearend would be good to put in there? thanks

I have a 1985 4x4 with a 2.8 and I was wanting to know if anybody can tell me what the trans is thats in my truck, its a automatic? I want to put a sbc 350 in it and I dont know if there is an adaptor so I can use what I have as far as trans and transfer case or if I need to change all that also to get it done?

i do believe it is a 700 r4 i know 82 to 90ish had 700 r4's in them also since you have a 2.8 you will have to buy an adapter i think definetly an oil pan or you can beat your old one to fit.

you will likely need quite a few things depending on exactly how you want it set up. Assuming you're going to stick with the carb, yes you can buy an adaptor for the transmission but you're probably better off finding one designed for the v8 or at the VERY least, a 700r4 from an s10 with the 4.3L since depending on how old that tranny or yours is, you may wind up rebuilding it in a few thousand miles anyways. aside from that, 4X4 v8 swap mounts, oil pan( i bought one from moroso that worked very well), oil pickup tube either special ordered with the pan or bought seperately(I used one from my 4.3 and so far no problems) and either the offset oil filter adapter or a remote oil filter kit. Thats the quick and dirty list anyways, you may need more depending on the type of 350 you get, there's 3 different 4X4 oil pans alone for it depending on the year. Hope this helps sorry its not more complete but I've only done it once.

the g80 code means a posi trac rear end. plus if you was to look under your truck and see the rear end has 3 shocks tells it has the posi rear in it.

i wonder what the rpo codes are for the 5spd trans that bolt to the 4.3. i have noticed in 96 they mainly had the internal slave. mine(a 95) has a external slave. does this mean two different trans or are they the same but just updated....

Not all true. i have seen trucks with the hop shock (3rd shock) and not have the g80 code.

gm went fro the t-5 tranny to the NV3500. thats the diff.
i may be slightly off on the tranny thing, but i know the rear is correct. But who really wants a gov-bomb anyway????

I see G80s in the JY all the time. I don't bother with the drum brake units when there are complete disc rears all over. I just picked up a disc G80 3.73 complete rear for my 4x4 (out of a Bravada) for $87! Even had good rotors and pads on it.
The Gov masters are good for mild street jamming, but not so hot for drag racing and big torque monsters.
I bought a 4.10 Eaton clutch posi rear all set up on Ebay for $600 delivered to the door. Evevrything was new - brakes, posi unit, rotors etc. It even came with a bottle of the posi additive!

here is the list I use. And it still says Standard Ratio. I know it's zero help. haha

what other codes do you have? Its a pain in the rear end (hardy har har) but you might have to flip through them all.

That's what I did and I found two contradictory codes, and I haven't gotten an answer yet to which one will be correct.
I checked all of the codes in my glovebox. Acording to the website I checked I have codes for standard ratit AND 3.42. If thats any help.

1992 sonoma ext cab, 2wdr, 2.8, 5-speed. gunna be a LONG term progect:)
