I have two questions about my 1998 Chevy S-10 5 speed 2.2 Liter

My first question is when I'm backing up my reverse gear pops out of gear into neutral. Does anybody know whats going on?

My second question is that when It's slippery out and I'm coming up to a stop sign and I press in the clutch and brake It sounds like the transmission is grinding. Just wondering whats going on there.
Thanks for the help In advance.

how many miles are on the truck? what transmission? here are some things that could cause it :

bad motor mounts/transmission mounts
bad pilot bearing
bad input shaft bearing
bad syncho rings
bad shifter
bad shift linkge and or bent shift fork.

you should look at the easy stuff first(mounts) and work your way to the harder stuff(syncho rings).

hope this helps
