Hi all. My fathers 98 Blazer pauses for about 2 seconds before engaging into drive. It goes right into reverse. He has been driving it around like this for 50,000 miles and it has never gotten worse. Truck has 145k on it. Anyone else run into this problem? Any Ideas?

Check the tranny fluid and see if it's low.

Also, at that mileage, I would take it to a shop and get a new transmission filter and a tranny fluid change.

Yeah my tranny is that way too... I finally got a rebuilt one this summer and its not as slow but it does still take about 2 seconds... Try the filter and fluid like he said... If it doesnt effect it immediatly it may take up to a full week before it gets better

My car way that way since new. I had to put it in drive and wait a few seconds for it to engauge.
300,000k on the car and it's still the same and never gotten worse.
What did help though was switching to a synthetic fluid, it only takes a second now but there is still a notciable pause.

had similar problem but into reverse would pause for a while before it would engage, ended up being a stuck servo or something like that.
