I have a 2003 4.3 with the 4L60/4L60-E (what’s the difference and which one do I have) and I tow a very light aluminum 6x10 and a new cub cadet zero turn. I have about 97k on the clock and would like to know what I can do to keep the trans as good as possible. I know this is a stupidity light tow weight but I don’t really want to replace a transmission and would rather be safe than sorry. Thank you, Matt

You have a 4l60E. All gm's after 93 are the electronic version. Tow in drive, not OD. Burn a bit more fuel but the trans will be much happier. You can get away with OD on long flat roads when there's no load on the trans. If you are going to tow long distances regularly. think about having the trans built up a little for towing. Better clutches and 2-4 band in particular and maybe a shift kit to increase hydraulic pressure in the trans.
Cooler is usually mounted on the passengers side in front of the A/C condenser. Run the return line from the radiator trans cooler thru the aux cooler before returning the fluid to the transmission.

Most people don't change their Trans fluid. I understand there are additives in the ATF that can deteriorate with time and heat, that your transmission needs, and it's not too expensive to do every 50k or so. I drop the pan to do it, it has been interesting what I have found by getting my eyeballs on the contents of the pan. Twice I've found that the filter was never pushed up into it's proper position, once there were two ring gaskets on the filter stem, holding it out of place. Sometimes there are piles of filings that can tell you something worthwhile. I use an oil analysis service out of Spokane that tells me about inordinate wear by the ultrafine particles suspended in the oil.

No pump needed. Mount it in front of the radiator. Don't use the junk thru the radiator zip ties.

S10 / Sonoma/ blazer/ jimmy/ and more the hot (in) go's into the radiator bottom of the radiator and it comes out the top for the return. for some reason GM did it backwards from your diagram.
