I've got an 89 s-10 longbed, with the 5sp. The engine is currently being rebuilt, and since I just got a job at a company that makes trailer hitch type bumpers for Ford, I have some limited access to the scrap bin. The question I have is, what's my towing capacity for this particular truck, if I weld a homemade hitch, complete with receiver reinforcements, from 2" box steel directly to the frame?
Or, if this is a huge mistake, please tell me now, before I start cutting on my frame and hitch asssembly???

2.5 L engine is rated as Class 1 (I believe), which means you should be able to pull up to 2000 lbs (my 2.5L pulls my loaded double JetSki trailer, no prob.) Class 1 is the smallest class, even a Pinto was rated for this class. There should also be info on the engine sticker, also info in Chilton's book.
