When I set timing on my 88 2.8 TBI do I need to have the air filter and and Map sensor installed. I timed it without and it runs fine but as soon as I attach the sensor it runs rough and stalls out.

Do map sensors tend to fail I think I may need to replace mine.

Don't forget about this wire either:

"The ESC Electronic Spark Timing "tan wire with a black stripe" that everyone can't find when attempting to set their timing (s-series). Wire is under the carpet on the passenger side below the heater box. It is disconnected to set the timing, then reconnected."
