I read in my Haynes manual that the V-6 TBI timing should be checked every 60K miles. But I looked for a timing pointer and marks around the crank pulley (and didn't even see an area to get a good look at the crank from above if I had even found the pointer). My question...is the timing even supposed to be checked and adjusted...and if so how? Thanks.

Timing on my truck retarded two degrees in 180,000 miles. Really doesn't move any, just timing chain wear. Have to disconnect a wire to get base timing and helps to put a white mark on the line on the damper and the actual timing mark on the plate at right setting. I wouldn't worry about it at this point anyway.

It has 113K on it and I went ahead and changed the timing gear/chain about 2K miles ago(just as a precaution)...so I should be alright?
