This is my first time doing this. Mainly I need to know what tools I will need and in what order so I can rent/buy them as needed also if anyone could link a video for me I am having trouble knowinvg if the videos i find are on the correct engine. I have changed my own oil a few times on a civic other then that and a tire change I'm a newbie. Basically if I can pull this of I can have it so if anyone is willing to help I would greatly appreciate it.

Taking the leap from oil change to timing chain is a fairly big jump up. There are plenty of videos. You should watch them all. Just make sure the video is for a 2nd gen S10. Some of it can get a bit tricky, like getting the cooling fan off, getting the hub off the crank, and being very careful not to turn the engine at all while doing the actual replacement.
Here's a how to from this forum:
I'd strongly recommend using GM parts. There are a number of online GM parts dealers that sell at better prices than your local Chevy stealership. Most are actually GM dealers doing a side hustle to make their parts dept. more profitable.
Here's one:
It's a Chevy dealer in AZ

Watch a bunch of videos and buy a Hayne's manual. And don't buy a tensioner elimination kit. I don't have any personal experience with them but from reading a bunch of threads they are crap.

Rockauto has the complete kit for your truck for $18.

If looking for a service book, skip the Haynes Comic Book, and invest in a real FSM (Factory Service Manual) - it's $ well spent.

I usually agree on the FSMs, but for some reason post 2000 are insanely priced. Even over 20 years old.
Whatever you do do not waste any money on CD's or "digital" manuals. They are all junk.
At $290 this is the cheapest 03 FSM on ebay:
I've been using my 98 manual for all my 98+ trucks and with the exception of changes in computers they really didn't change much thru 04. They're much less expensive. This one is around $80.

So, this is my first S10, when the issue happened that caused this situation the truck got hot and I guess there is some kind of a protection feature that stopped the truck from over heating that also makes the ignition lock or something like that because it currently doesn't turn over or really anything at all. When trying to crank it it just doesn't do anything. I assume this is something that can be reset or fixed once the timing chain is replaced. Does this info sound correct and do you know how to reset/fix this so the truck will crank once fixed?
