Well the engine finally died in my '87. I definitley want to put a new engine in it but I dont know the best one to go with. I'm not looking to have a street-machine or anything like that. Just something to get me to work and back. Also, hopefully the installation is simple enough so I dont have to fab a bunch of stuff up. What engien do you guys suggest I go with?

How the Hell did you kill the engine??????? My 90 w/ 270K gets dogged EVERYDAY and I cant kill the little beast even with constant runs up to 6 grand in 1st and 2nd gear??? I would go for a newer 4.3 if you can get a good deal onthe engine / trans combo. I think that for the fuel economy and power / weight in a little s-10 it would do well, at least a heck of a lot better than a little ol' 2.5
