im not sure on this point.. but ive heard the cross memebers were different between the L4's and v6's.. but dont know 100% on that.. so hopefully someone else will be able to answer that part..Ok here is my question. I have an 87 4x4 with a 4 spd man. and a 2.8, I would like to drop a 2.5 in it. What kind of advantages/ disadvantages will I have with this setup?
As far as advantages... greater hp and tq.. which would allow you the oppertunity to pull heavier trailer loads than you could with the L4... Little quicker acceleraction because of the hp and tq the engine wouldnt be having to work as hard from a dig..
main dissadvantage i could see for it is slightly worse gas mileage.. but i dont know what the v6's from that yr were getting.. my 2.5L L4 gots 17mpg before i rebuilt the engine...(it had some issues) but now its getting 22 mpg..
but there is quite a few performance parts out there for the v6 to help it get more power and better fuel mileage if you know where to look.. or least so ive heard..
