Ok here is my question. I have an 87 4x4 with a 4 spd man. and a 2.8, I would like to drop a 2.5 in it. What kind of advantages/ disadvantages will I have with this setup?
im not sure on this point.. but ive heard the cross memebers were different between the L4's and v6's.. but dont know 100% on that.. so hopefully someone else will be able to answer that part..

As far as advantages... greater hp and tq.. which would allow you the oppertunity to pull heavier trailer loads than you could with the L4... Little quicker acceleraction because of the hp and tq the engine wouldnt be having to work as hard from a dig..

main dissadvantage i could see for it is slightly worse gas mileage.. but i dont know what the v6's from that yr were getting.. my 2.5L L4 gots 17mpg before i rebuilt the engine...(it had some issues) but now its getting 22 mpg..

but there is quite a few performance parts out there for the v6 to help it get more power and better fuel mileage if you know where to look.. or least so ive heard..

So, you would recommend I stay with the 2.8?

I have a '96 4wd 4.3 jimmy.
Left work today, was like 12 degrees out.
Soon as i hit the road, my engine light came on, and it seemed to idle kind of strange when i got to the gas station.
Got home, shut it off, restarted, and gave it some gas from throttle body to check for engine noise. Revved to about 2500 rpm's, and let off, and idle set at 2000 in park and neutral.
Haven't checked DTC yet, but will tomorrow.
Any ideas?

Yeah, dont mean to sound rude, but this thread is dead and in the 2.5l forum, try the 4.3l forum.

I've got an '89 2.5L 2wd. Rebuilt the bottom end and put the engine back in. It didn't start at first. We loosened the fuel fitting at the throttle body to check for fuel; there was gas there. The truck started. I started it for a few days and eventually drove it down the road. The second day of driving it, I went up and down my road a couple times to get it up to temperature and when I stopped back at the garage it wouldn't start back up again.
Once again, we loosened the fuel fitting and w/ the key on gas presented itself lol
Any ideas?
Only 22,000 miles on the truck... but it had been torn apart for 6 months that I know of, before I bought it and put the engine back together..

so ive had an oil leak in my engine for some time now and i tried fixing it by replacing the valve gasket but its still leaking a little from some place else. and when i look under the engine i can see its coming through the flywheel and the transmission. do you have an idea of where a possible leak could be coming from?

Any idea or suggestion on how often the transmission fluid on the manual 5 speed transmission should be replaced?

I found where I should change the differential fluid once a year or 12000 miles or 20000 kms here in Canada but can't find a recommendation on tranny fluid. Any info appreciated.
