i have a 89' s10 with an iron duke 5-speed tranny

i recently put a rebuilt engine in it.

it has been bored .30 over, has a gm blaster coil, new cap, new rotor button, ac delco plugs and wires, a cast iron header (1 peice not welded tubing ), new map sensor, custom electric fan, and etc.

the problem is that: 1st on startup the engine is rough like jump out of the truck rough ... 2nd after started it has a kinda rough idle untill i step on the gas.... if i step on it hard it bogs down if i accelerate easy it runs smooth

so i try turning the dis. to adjust the timing ... it dies either way i turn it it still dies ... very touchy will only run in one spot .

i've tried just about everything please help

ok so im still having a warming problem. in town she is fine, but i hit the freeway and look out, temp gauge climbs. once it hits over 210 i go back to surface streets. fresh tune up, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, 02 sensor, fuel filter, 180 stat, and radiator flush. now as it runs alot better than it did, it still has a lil bit of hesitation. and not all the time, so i suspect the fuel pump. yes? no? what do you think? and for the heating up issue. ive noticed it sounds like my fan is engaged first thing when i start my truck. then when it warms up, i dont hear it anymore. would a bad fan clutch cause this exact problem? and how do i determine which fan clutch i need. 90 2.5 5spd w/ a/c. i look up the parts and there are 2 choices one being a rear mounted and the other is a front mounted. help me determine this. thanks in advance.

the one in the back of the head is the dash temp sensor. It will be a dark green wire. You can go to www.autozone.com to get wiring diagrams and part#s if you want.

I've been on that site looking for 3 days. There's only 2 sensors listed and it's not one of them. Could you please find it for me? I'm having a hell of a time.

Might go into an Autozone or Advance and ask for one, I think the dash one has an odd plug on the end, kind of a L shape? I could not find a part number where I checked. What problem are you having with this thing?

you can probably use that sensor, you will have to ground one side of the connector and use the other side to the dash guage.

Edit- that is assuming that the size of the threads match.
The internals should be the same just the one side of the resistor inside is not case grounded on the ecm sensor like the dash guage, might be worth a try, let us know how it works if you try.

try it man, couldnt hurt much most of these GM sensors use the same resistance. Even if it was a 2 wire, like I said ground one pin and use the other to the guage. Let us know how bad the flames are. :)

I just find it hard to believe that none of the stores have it in their system, ya know? They keep telling me it's a coolant temperature sensor (#su109) but that's the one on the front, next to the radiator hose. This one has a different plug on the wire, and it fits the sensor.

I'm gonna try what Killyoass gave me today. Hopefully it works, since i'm driving it to RA in 2 weeks, lol.

Put an ohmmeter across the CTS and read what the coolant temp is, use the chart I posted to check it against the temp you think it is (265 would be very low, just a few ohms) (you should be seeing around 200 ohms on a warmed up engine.)

88 S10 2.5 radiator leaking

Here's the history of this truck since I've had it.
-oil pressure light came on during idle went off during higher rpms
-Valve cover gasket leaking
-radiator leaks when parked right after driving (leak at the top)
-changed oil to synthetic 10w40 high mileage oil light doesn't come on anymore
-slight tapping/knocking during idle
-180,000 miles

I assume that when oil is not being sent properly throughout the engine pressure builds up in the engine and causes leaks in the valve cover and radiator. Now if I replace the radiator with a new one and replace the valve cover gasket, will my engine lock or blow up? Should I replace the oil pump before sealing the leaks?
Any comments will help. Thanks.

On truck replacement of timing gear possible?

Is it possible to replace the Iron Duke's camshaft timing gear without taking the engine apart? Once the grille, radiator, fan etc. are removed, there is plenty of room to work on the timing gear assembly while the engine is in the truck. But can anything be done except to admire the damaged parts?
