Perfect. I just picked up a 1998 engine with 46k on it.Both are the same, bellhousing and flywheel spacing. Things didn't get squirrely until the LS engines got here.
This is going in a Delorean. I know, this is an S10 forum. I am confident I am in the right place to find 4.3L experts. The car has an old TBI from the 80’s. Previous owner did the swap. The Vortec I picked up has a wire harness and PCM. I need to plug it in, bypass the key, and pray. The engine was pulled from a yard back in 2002. The engine was supposed to go in a mid 70’s Land Cruiser project. Engine rolls over and all ports have been sealed. It is amazingly clean. Fingers crossed. A couple questions:What are you putting this in? Are you going to put the complete Vortec in? You'll need a 60PSI fuel pump. Wiring will be a bit of a project. I'd use a 01-02 0411 PCM.
Man, another thing to consider is rebuilding the Flux Capacitor - it was quirky even when new! Just ask Marty McFly - he knows. This is going in a Delorean. I know, this is an S10 forum. What is the purpose of the line off the exhaust manifold to the intake? If the heat shields at the exhaust manifold were removed, what would fail? I’m curious to understand the history of those parts, my TBI doesn’t have them.
It’s all good. The best comments and experiences with the car come from those that surprise me. If it wasn’t for the movie the car would be a Bricklin.OK so we're a bunch of smartazzes.
The tube you are asking about is for the EGR valve on the intake. It provides the EG part.(exhaust gas). The valve recycles some of it into the intake to cool the combustion chambers at cruise and to keep the hippie beaurocrats in CA happy. Won't need it in your Delorean. But you will have to have it shut off in the PCM's program if you don't want the SES light always on. The heat shields are there to reduce heat to the things near the exhaust. Removing them won't hurt anything in the engine. They were added to the Vortec motors because the 96 up S10's have a lot more stuff under the hood than the old TBI trucks did. More stuff = less air flow = more under hood heat. Keep them if you can or protect anything nearby with some sort of foil/insulation wrap.
And remember: You must reach 1.21 jigawatts, or forget it...😎Man, another thing to consider is rebuilding the Flux Capacitor - it was quirky even when new! Just ask Marty McFly - he knows.Sorry - I couldn't resist when I saw 'DeLorean'. Good luck!
