Hey guys, got a ?, my friends dad shaved my tailgate, overheated it and warped it, i dont wanna pay 300 for a new gate, and no damn salvage yards have em.... so i was thinkin about cutting out the warped portion, get a piece of sheetmetal and tacking it in.... will this work? and if so, what gauge metal do i need? suggestions paleeez

I am not trying to sound negative, but if the tailgate got warped from trying to shave the handle, the odds of shaping a piece of sheetmetal to correctly match the tailgate contour(i assume this is a 2nd gen) and welding it in place without warping the new panel and existing areas of old tailgate are slim. The tailgate is a VERY easy panel to warp, as it is long, curved, and made of thin sheetmetal. I would recommend somehow trying to find a salvage tailgate and start over. Good luck!
