what would be a better transmission? Definitely not a race truck lol… just a once in a while driver that Can be a little fun.Not an expert on TH transmissions, but I doubt it.
Is this strictly a racing truck? Most folks today prefer something newer for less engine wear and better gas mileage.
Yea that’s exactly what he said… would those work in a 85 with a SBC?Sounds like a TH-375, light duty TH-400 with a TH-350 size yoke.
Thanks
Randy
glenn, we aren't mind readers, what are you trying to do, your goals? Maybe we can help..So basically I should wait
what do you have now, what are you working with? 300hp, although formidable, is hardly fun in todays standards.I’m sorry I want 300 HP just a fun driver with some rumble
What else would I need to use that transmission? As long as its a Chevy bellhousing case and the length is workable it would be fine.
Buick, Olds, Pontiac and possibly Cadillac used one with a different BOP bellousing.
Any I've seen had a longer extension housing and tailshaft than a regular T-400
They were common 1971 to about 1976 big Chevy's like Bel-Air, Impala, Caprice etc.
This was in response to the too short transmissions used in 1965-70 big Chevy's.
The regular short trans in the above mentioned required a too long driveshaft.
They often experienced driveshaft failures in cars that exceeded 100 mph in the 1/4 mile.
I had a 1967 that spit out a few driveshafts crossing the finish line!
Not a pretty sight and each busted the trans case as well.
Thanks
Randy
.
What else would I need to use that transmission?
Would a drive shaft from a truck work? Or would I have to get something? The usual stuff and a driveshaft.
The only thing different with this trans compared to a regular TH-400 would be a shorter driveshaft.
Thanks
Randy
Those parts are easily available? It depends on what your putting the trans in??
In any case you need a shaft with a 27 spline yoke to fit the TH-375.
Many GM trans are 27 spline EG: TH-350, 700 R4 etc. so that end is easy.
Then you need to determine the length and rear U joint size to fit your diff.
Thanks
Randy
I want a 700R4 I believe it would be a easier setup but I could steal that 400 lol.For what you're planning to do with the truck sounds like a 4L60E if using EFI or 700R4 if carbed would make most sense. Easily built for 300HP and will bolt in with stock mounts and driveshaft. Should be able to find a local builder who can put one together for you for around $1500. He'll need all the specifics as to what engine, etc you're using.
