Thanks for this great site.
i think i've read most of the posts dealing with engine surging, but mine has trouble codes that are different.

'97 zr2, 4.3, 250k miles.
has been surging badly at shift points when 1600-1800rpm. idles fine.

codes are listed below.
thanks for a review

suggestions?
i can't see how to delete the duplicate pictures.

C3000, Incorrect Shift from Gear

P001E, Intake Camshaft profile control A, Bank 2, Circuit Low


P1870, Transmission Component Slipping,
Or Transmission Mechanical Transfer Case 4x4 Switch Circuit Failure

P0128, Transmission over temperature condition
Or, Coolant Thermostat Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature

You need to get a decent scanner to see which of those codes really exist. You can get a BAFX bluetooth on Amazon for about $25. Then download Torque or Car Gauge app for your phone. It's not the best setup ever made, but will give you everything you'll need to diagnose an S10 accurately. For a total of less than $40 it'll do anything a $150 scanner can.
Some of the big box auto parts stores have scanners that give certain codes on every vehicle. They claim it's a glitch. I think it's marketing's way to sell unneeded parts.

can you recommend an ios-friendly obd2 reader?

ok. i just picked up a new sensor.
but, the dtc i ran this morning gave me these:

With the speed of the engine going over 500 rpm for 5 seconds, Fuel Shutoff inactive, throttle angle from 8.5-35%, Transaxle not in First gear, Transaxle gear range is D4, Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor input 68-266°F, engine torque from 50-200 ft-lbs, engine vacuum 0-105 kPa, Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) commanded on and at Max apply for over 5 seconds,

the PCM detects a

TCC slip speed
of over 200 rpm for over 5 seconds,
all conditions met for 3 times with TCC commanded off each time in between cycles.

fluid: what am i looking for?
metal shavings?
would i have to drop the pan?

at 275,000 miles would there be risk of having to rebuild the trans if i drained it to look inside?

what else should i be prepared to change while it is open?

i thought i had a 2-3 solenoid error at some time in the past.

I'm comfortable rebuilding motorcycle and small motors but this is a bit daunting. my last car rebuild was 45 years ago on a straight 6.
