My daughter has a 2003 Sonoma 2.2 L automatic and it stalls when the ac's on when it's idling
I was wondering where I do I start
Somebody mentioned to me it needs a new idle control valve?
Thanks
Mike

Sounds like a possibility, but be sure there are no under lying issues like DTC codes that need fixing or vacuum leaks or just flat needs new plugs and wires because it's been too long. If it runs fine, an IAC is a good starting point for throwing parts at it.

A/C? It's 30°F here as I'm typing this.

Haha yes here too. Might be obvious but if you pull the serpentine belt, is the ac pump locked up? I’ve seen this happen before when the ac clutch engages, it was frozen enough to shut off the motor.

Deerslayer and Ja I think today it's going to hit 90 degrees
Everything seems ok and ac seems ok I guess it's not going be an easy fix?
I guess I'll start with idle control valve and go from there.

But at least we don't have hurricanes.

Actually, here in Wisconsin we might as well have had one. The continual rain for the last 9 months caused local flooding last August and some areas are still having problems with water just a foot or two below flood stage. We've see the sun about 1 day a week since March. Must be that evil global warming that somebody is experiencing, sure ain't warm here. Right now it's solid overcast, wind out of the north (Think Arctic circle) and about 50. Definitely not mid May weather. Even for up north. Been like this since the snow ended. Two weeks ago.

Yeah it's looks the plains area and up north really had a hard winter and I guess it continues
I don't remember the snow and being cold anymore...when I visit relatives in NYC it's always in the summer!!
Texas and Louisiana have got rain bad everything is flooded!
God Bless my parents for moving to Florida from NYC when I was (I think 24 yrs old)I been down here like 35 yrs
But now I got to admit the heats getting to me never bothered before guess it has to with old age
The only time we got a really bad hurricane was Matthew 2 yrs ago or so and it was pretty fierce all the other hurricanes through the years never bothered me
Matthew blew my fence down and blew a tree over that landed on my roof I just got that taken care of
that was a lotta hassle with insurance company finally got a new tin (galvalume) roof after all that time
But we been lucky with weather as far as that goes
when my wife retires I think we gonna move to Ga or NC in the mountains we'll see

GMC Envoys have that problem alot and it is the throttle position sensor 9 times out of 10, you can try cleaning the inside of the throttle body and see if that fixes it before replacing it.

Well I checked out my daughters truck today the throttle body was clean so I replaced the idle control valve (cost about $9.00 on eBay)and lo and behold the truck ran great after that no more stalling at idle with the a/c on! Dodged a bullet on that one!
Thanks for all your suggestions thanks again! Mike
