I have a 97 Jimmy 4.3 with 62,000 miles. For the past 2 weeks, on occasion, it just refuses to start. I can crank and re-crank until the battery dies. Most of the time now it doesn't give me any trouble but every now and then its dead. Could it possibly be my fuel pump? Fuel filter? I'm stumped please help.

It never hurts to change the filter - they're inexpensive.

The times that it refuses to start... put a fuel pressure gauge on the valve on the lines, towards the back of the engine.

My 96 has a bad checkvalve in the sending assy portion of the pump. About 75% of the time I'd estimate the fuel in the system drains back and I have to double-prime it (key on for a few seconds.. key off. key on for a few seconds -> start) or I'll have to sit there and crank for a little bit until it starts.

Might just be a flaky pump in yours.

Check your distributor cap...my hubby's truck does that on occasion and he has to take off the cap and dry the condensation out. Which is REALLY weird, cause my truck (same motor) has never done that...it has it's own quirks though.
