I just bought a 1989 S-10 Tahoe 5-speed 4x4, 2,8litre.
This is all I know about it.
My friend said there was an oil leak somewhere, but could not tell me where it was.
When I engage the clutch and put it in any gear and let go of the clutch, the truck does not go forward, or reverse. Even when I put it in 4 high/low.
We are guessing that it is the rear main seal, but that is only a guess.
If anyone has any info as to where to start, it would be greatly appreciated.

The truck is totally worth it. It is in great shape, with a roll bar and winch, etc...

I'm hoping to get it going again, real soon.

Thanks for any info.

Your friend said it had an oil leak, so you immediately assume it is from the rear main seal? Ummm, I would look at the engine and see if you can spot where it is leaking. Remember, gravity works, and the highest point that has oil on it (mostly) will be where it is leaking from.

transmission-wise, I would first ask is there a driveshaft in it? Is it connected? Gotta start somewhere, and you should look to the basics first.

Oil leak, most common on these engines is the distributer O-ring gasket. Replace that first. The part is like $.40 and takes a few minutes to install. The way it leaks makes it look just like the rear main is leaking.
