Thought you guys would like to know. I was researching the head gasket problems in GMs 3.1 and 3.4 V6s and found out that the '92-'96 2.2's head gaskets have such a high failure rate that GM has instituted a secret warranty program. Its special policy bulletin #98054A. Dont expect a dealership to admit it right off though.

It's not a secret warranty program. Those bulletin numbers are from their SI2000 database under the section called Preliminary Information. It's all the data that's under investigation to possibly become a TSB. Currently on my 2000 S-10, there are 51 PIs. (scary huh?) The format of the numbers should be #A000XXX for most of them. You'll find a lot of the PI's are for additional issues with existing TSBs.

Buy yourself an all day pass for $15 at www.acdelcotds.com and you can look up all the codes for your GM vehicle.

It's true though. If you have a problem related to a PI, don't expect your dealer to be forthcoming with a warranty repair without a lot of pleading. It's hard enough to get them to act on an existing TSB.
