ok i want this thread to be a simple place for newbs with SFA questions , to be able to ask there ??? to stop cloging up all for the build treads with tons of random ???,

So, please ask any sfa s10,blazer ??? you have HEAR, simple Q and A:D

only resond with your input / wizdom, NO rants hear please, also dont use this tread as your personal build tread start one for your build. this should be for you snags , breaks ,drive line , how much lift , what springs????? what shocks, you get the point

WHOS first, if any ones has any thing to add fill free.

Figure ill put this one here since i know someones goin to just blatantly ask this.

Q: What Wagoneer axles do i use.

A: Any after 80 or so will be driver side drop and will be narrow track(basically will fit under are trucks and use the same transfer case), BUT 82-84 had the vacuum disconnect in the front which is a weaker design(they also mostly had amc 20 rears from what i have seen)...if you want to use wagoneer axles look for one from a 85-91. The stongest combo is in these years dana 44s front and back. Several also had the AMC 20 in the rear which isn't as strong as a 44 but will get the job done unless you plan on big tires and wheel the crap outta it.

Note: For those people wondering about other full sized jeeps

Q: What is a Wide track (WT) and a Narrow track (NT)? How do I know which one I have?
A: We will start with the easy answers first:
  • 1984-1991 Grand Wagoneers are all Narrow tracks*
  • 1963-1983 Wagoneers are all Narrow tracks*
  • 1963-1988 J-trucks are all Wide tracks
  • 1974-1983 4-Door Cherokees are all Narrow tracks*
Now, onto the more difficult answer. The 1974-1983 2-Door Cherokee could either be a Wide track or a Narrow track. Jeep basically took the front fenders and rear fender flares from a J-truck, along with wider axles, and put them on a 2-door Cherokee. This would be a Wide track. Jeep also put Wagoneer fenders and no rear flare, with the narrower Wagoneer axles, on a 2-door Cherokee. This would be a Narrow track. The wide tracks are generally referred to as a Cherokee Chief or Cherokee Laredo.

Depends on the length of suspension travel. On mine i have 13.5" travel on the front from Rough Country, and 11.5" travel Rough Country on the rear that bolt to the stock mounts on my blazer.

for dana 30 it all depends if you like having a CAD or not. i think that the 87-95 yj wrangler are easyest IMO.
and i like to put the front hanger as far forward as posable/ it will push your axle froward from stock 2-4 inchs.

i would say your leaf spring will be mounted right about where the front of your body mount is welded to the frame. i would use that for a base to start messuing for your other mounts

kinda like my eye bolt for spring is right below front of the body mount

great idea with this thread its alot easier to post a question than a hole thread that will clutter up the forum. so i am collecting parts to swap in the 231j t-case out put shaft. i have gotten my cherokee front drive shaft already and like most other builds its going to need to be cut down. i was wondering what welds to grint down to decide where to cut at? i know there is some what like a sleve that slips in the drive shaft a little ways on a rear drive shaft, but im not too sure about a front drive shaft with a slip yolk in it. i made points on the drive shaft to make the answer plain as day. thanks in advanced!

its hard to say with out knowing what year the axles came from and what year your s10 is. easyest way to know what your working with would be to look up part # for the axle vs the s10 then you will know if you need a convertion u joint or not, more then likely your front axle will share the 1310 u joint in both the full size and the s10.
