Sad story. Just bought a low milage 1986 S10 blazer tahoe.
31K miles. Been driving it 10 days. Backing into a friends
driveway i see a trail of oil. Looked like the idiot light sender
was leaking alot. After replacing both that and the guage sender
because i thought it was that one at first The engine sounds noisy in
the bottom end. I did drain and refill after replacing the senders.
As i was dumping the drain pan i noticed metal flakes. I will drain it
again to see whats in the pan his time. Also no leaks after all this.
I am not sure its worth spending $2000 + . There are pictures of it
in the gallery.

Yikes, same thing happened to my 3.4 last year, trail of oil and everything. Oil pressure dropped to 0 when I let off the gas in traffic. Fortunately I pulled over and killed the engine before it did some serious damage. It was my gauge sender as well.

If you can rebuild it yourself I'd say go for it, or find another block and swap. Just curious do you know how much oil was left in there before you drained/refilled?

I wish i would have measured it. Guessing 2 quarts. Now i am
not sure the new guage sender is working right. At startup it
goes to about 50 psi and stays there even after shutting off the key.
Turning the key to on makes it return to zero. I had a quote
Of $2000 for a complete rebuild not including removal and install
Of course. This blazer is really nice except for the silver paint wanting
To peel along the bottom.

Aren't 3.4 swap replacements around $1500. That's what I'd do if yoy have the 2.8

Went to look it up. Are these 3.4 crates discontinued?

3.4 crates have been discontinued, only option is to rebuild or find a 3.4 out of a camaro or any other rwd.

That's why I bought mine. Because I knew they were going to be discontinued. I bet you can find one if you still look though. But just buy a rebuilt one or grab one from a junkyard and either rebuild it yourself or get someone to build it.
