I have a STS pacesetter header, 40 series Flowmaster and no cat (internally gutted cat). When climbing the RPM range its kinda ricey but when I get to a constant speed it kicks back to a deep throaty flowmaster sound! I love the sound and the more responsive power it gave my 2.2. I can really tell a difference from 2500- 4000 Rpm!!
What I really want to know is what would it sound like if I removed my muffler and ran straight pipe. I have a tip that I am gonna put on it. It's a resonator tip that I put on an '89 escort w/no muffler and it sounded kinda cool, for an escort, lol.
i would say do what i did on my 97 s-10 manual 2.2 and just cut off the stock muffler , buy a 25 inch long "thrust" glasspack , and leave the "cat" on there .....my exaust is 2.25" i would recomend this if you like a rice sound !!
don't buy a can for like a honda civic or an acura integra. they all claim it will work fine. what the don't tell you is it will hang to damn low and you're going to scrape it on everything eventually braking it. the other thing the stores won't say is that you have to weld directly to them to fixate them in since they don't make a hangar big enough on our trucks to do it. I have a friend who drives for matrix racing. he's got dual rice cans out the rear, but he had to take his entire rear bumber off to put them on without losing clearance and putting the cans to low. it sounds great, but looks like hell. and it's all welded directly to the chrome. it sorta ruined any resale value if he ever wanted it. check out matix's website he's got a pic of it on there.
